Facebook’s Poke Feature Makes a Comeback, Gains Popularity Among Gen Z Users

Facebook is bringing back the Poke feature, and it seems to be gaining popularity among Gen Z users. The Poke, which was previously hidden deep within Facebook’s settings, has resurfaced following a design tweak by Meta, the parent company of Facebook. This tweak has made the Poke button more visible, resulting in a significant increase in Pokes.

Meta reported that Pokes surged by 13 times after the design change, although the exact daily number of Pokes generated was not disclosed. The Poke button is now more accessible, appearing alongside a user’s name in search results, and the Poke page can be found by typing ‘poking’ or ‘pokes’ in the search bar.

Surprisingly, over 50% of the new Pokes are being made by users aged 18 to 29, indicating a strong interest from Gen Z and young millennials. This demographic may have been too young to engage with the Poke feature during its original heyday.

The Poke feature, one of Facebook’s earliest signature functionalities, was introduced even before the News Feed. While it fell out of favor at some point, its revival suggests a renewed appeal, particularly among younger users. The Poke provides a low-effort way to reconnect with old friends on the platform.
