Volkswagen ID Buzz California Electric Camper Van Project Facing Delays

The Volkswagen ID Buzz California, an electric camper van project, is facing delays in its release, with executives citing a lack of market demand as the primary reason. According to German publication Edison, the camper van’s delay was initially attributed to its weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes with passengers and luggage, necessitating a higher-category driving license for owners. However, Lars Krause, sales and marketing chief at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV), refuted this claim during the annual press conference, dismissing the weight-related concerns.

Krause emphasized that the delay in the California camper’s launch is not due to technical issues, but rather the absence of sufficient market interest. He addressed previous reports about the project’s weight, expressing amusement at the speculation. The decision to postpone the release indicates the company’s strategic response to the current market landscape, prioritizing consumer demand and regulatory considerations.
