30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Highlights

The 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Saturday, Feb. 24. The awards honored stars from both television and film, with winners selected by their peers in the guild. Cillian Murphy, from Oppenheimer, expressed gratitude for the award, emphasizing its significance as a recognition from fellow guild members.

The event held particular significance following the SAG strike, during which members united with screenwriters to halt Hollywood during contract negotiations with the studios. British actor Idris Elba set the tone for the evening, joking about the permissibility of swearing due to the ceremony being streamed, with a humorous reference to Oprah Winfrey’s presence.

Meryl Streep’s onstage mishap, forgetting her glasses and the envelope, led to a memorable moment as her former Runway magazine assistants, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, came to her aid, creating a delightful reunion from The Devil Wears Prada. Blunt humorously likened Streep to her on-screen character, Miranda Priestly, to which Streep playfully objected. The Netflix backstage host, Tan France, noted the uncanny resemblance between the actors’ real-life attire and their characters from the film.

These were just a few of the highlights from the 2024 SAG Awards, which celebrated the outstanding achievements of the entertainment industry.
