21 Savage Teams Up with Donald Glover and Caleb McLaughlin for New Film Project

Rapper 21 Savage is making a comeback, and this time he’s teaming up with Donald Glover and ‘Stranger Things’ star Caleb McLaughlin for a new film project. The trailer for ‘American Dream: The 21 Savage Story’ has been released, offering a glimpse into the memoir of 21 Savage’s incarceration by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2019.

21 Savage, who hails from Atlanta but was born in the U.K., was arrested by ICE as part of then-president Trump’s crackdown on undocumented citizens. He was detained for several weeks and faced the threat of deportation. However, the ‘Free 21 Savage’ campaign ultimately led to his release and allowed him to stay in the country.

The trailer, directed by Donald Glover, his brother Stephen Glover, Jamal Olori, and Fam Udeorji, features new music by 21 Savage. The Grammy-winning artist, known for his last solo album ‘I Am > I Was’ in 2018, has since released two collaborative albums and toured extensively. He has also achieved accolades such as winning a Grammy for his song ‘A Lot’ and receiving multiple award nominations.

In the trailer, Caleb McLaughlin portrays a young 21 Savage, depicting his struggles with bullying at school before turning to rap music and getting tattooed. Later, Donald Glover takes on the role of 21 Savage and is shown in the studio with rapper-producer Metro Boomin, played by Jabari Banks. The trailer also captures the dramatic turn of events as ICE officials raid 21 Savage’s home and he faces a court appearance. Ultimately, the story concludes with 21 Savage’s release, Grammy win, and a knighting ceremony by Natasha Lyonne, as he recounts how he earned the name ’21 Savage.’

Aside from Donald Glover and Caleb McLaughlin, the trailer also features Victoria Pedretti from ‘Haunting of Hill House’ and Young Mazino from ‘Beef’ portraying various roles in the film. The production is helmed by Tara Raz.
