The 2024 Met Gala Dress Code has been announced, and it is themed ‘The Garden of Time.’ This year’s exhibition concept, titled ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,’ is set to showcase fragile and timeless fashion pieces from the Costume Institute’s archives.
The exhibition, scheduled for Monday, May 6, will be co-chaired by Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, and Anna Wintour. Guests will be treated to a display of fashion ranging from a 17th-century English Elizabethan-era bodice to modern pieces, all embodying the beauty of the natural world, with sub-themes including Land, Sea, and Sky.
The dress code, ‘The Garden of Time,’ draws inspiration from J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same title. The story portrays a utopian world of leisure and beauty, juxtaposed with a dystopian element, where tranquility is threatened by an encroaching and chaotic mob. The Count must pluck time-reversing flowers from his garden to restore peace, ultimately leading to the demise of his paradise.
